草取りはYummy?! -夏の草取りpart2-
またまた、２時間に及ぶ草取りを決行。
今日は朝から日差しが強く、日射病も心配されたが、幸い駐輪場の周囲は日陰。それでも帽子を目深に被り、「足元から」と呪文のように唱えて草取り開始。
今夏、おいしい夏をプレゼントしてくれたトマトたち。すでに伸び放題に伸び、周りの雑草と見分けがつかないくらい、荒れ放題になってしまった。トマトを１本づつ抜いていく。根本が干からびて、倒れないように巻いたリボンが食い込んでいた。心の中で思わずトマトに合掌。おいしさの裏にトマトの忍耐あり!!
メインのトマトの草取りを終え、壁に沿って植えたミョウガの周りに取りかかる。と、緑色の動く物体発見!! なっ、なんと、大きなカマキリ。ミョウガの緑と見事同化している。天敵から逃れるカマキリの知恵にしばし感心。
今回は「草取り」だけでなく「土を肥やす」という目的もあった。昨秋、公園から集めてた葉が腐葉土になってきた。これをトマト跡地に投入。おいしい野菜作りのためには、土作りが大事。土作りが全てを左右するといっても過言ではない。来年もおいしい収穫を期待する。
そして、今日は草取りの途中で思わぬプレゼント。裏のお家になっているゴーヤを、もいでいただいた。ランチはゴーヤチャンプルに決定。今日は主人が腕をふるってくれた。正直、ゴーヤは苦手だった。以前食べたとき、苦くて閉口した記憶があるからだ。
BUT、今日のゴーヤチャンプルは、記憶を裏切る絶旨!! もぎたて新鮮野菜のパワーをもろ実感した。ほのかな苦さが玉子、豆腐と相まって食欲をそそる。
自家菜園。夢は広がる。
