Spring- Cleaning(大掃除)
皆さん、大掃除(Spring-cleaning)は終わりましたか？
私は昨日までの2日半で、終えてしまいました。あまり懲りすぎるといつまでたっても終わらないので、ほどほど…というところで(汗)。
どうやら大掃除は、日本特有のもののようです。そういえば、カリフォルニアにホームステイしていたとき、どなたもそんなお話ししてませんでした。long vacation(長期休暇)で皆さん、どこかに出かけちゃいますし…(うらやましい)。
2件目のお宅は、通常の掃除も掃除人の方を雇ってやらせておりました。3週間に１度位、ヒスパニック系の人たちが3名ほどでお掃除しておりました。ほんとにたっくさんのお部屋のあるお屋敷でしたから…。もう二度とあんな生活できないなあ(戻りたや〜)。
で、本日から3日間ほど世界の小学校の掃除事情をご紹介します。週間STオンラインからの抜粋です。
◆ スイスの場合:答えてくれるのは、ジョエル君（10歳）・ソフィちゃん（6歳）・ユリアちゃん（6歳）のお母さんである美由紀さんです。

Q1：学校では掃除の時間はありますか？
Is there a time set aside for cleaning at your children's school?A：毎週水曜日の午後や、土曜日の休校時間などに、お掃除のおばさんが来てお掃除をしてくれます。そのほか、長期休暇中に数回、数人のお掃除のおばさんが来て大掃除をしてくれているようです。
Every week, on Wednesday afternoons and Saturdays and other holidays, we have this woman come in to clean the school. Apart from that, during the long holidays, a number of women come in every now and again to clean the school.Q2: 学校ではその年の最後の登校日に、皆でいっせいに大掃除をしますか？
In Switzerland, the last day of the school year is spent cleaning?約半年に一回(12月＆６月)に「通信簿」をもらい、休みに入りますが、その長い休みの最終登校日に、子供たちが各自大きめの袋を学校に持参して、自分が作った工作などを持ち帰るなど、身の回りの整頓をして帰ってくるだけの様子です。特別な大掃除というものはないです。
About twice a year (in June and December), around the time the children get their school reports, the children have to go to school with a big bag to take home anything that they made at school, and clean out their personal space, such as desks and lockers. There's no custom of cleaning the school.ですがスイスって、日本みたいに小さいころから特別な掃除方法を教わっている訳でもないのに、なぜかきれい好きな人が多いですね。国内どこへいっても、公共の場所ですら、日本以上にキレイだったりします。
Even though in Switzerland we don't have any special cleaning customs, there are, for some reason, a lot of tidy people. Wherever you go in Switzerland, you will find public places that are even cleaner than in Japan.＜ひとこと＞スイスの小学校では給食やお弁当が一切ないのですが、朝の休み時間中 (9:55〜10:15)と、午後の休み時間中（15:15〜15:30）に、各自おやつを持参して食べています。ですが、教室を汚さないようにという理由からなのか、先生もお茶休憩するため生徒の様子を見ていられないからなのか、おやつを食べる生徒も食べない生徒も、休み時間中は、全校生徒が必ず校庭に出ることになっていて、校舎内に入ることが許されていません。決められた掃除の時間はありませんし、掃除の仕方も教えることは一切しませんが、教室を汚した後の片付けは、先生もわりと時間をちゃんと取って、生徒皆に分担させながら行なっています。
There's no such thing as school lunches and lunchboxes at Swiss schools. But we have this custom of having a snack during the morning or afternoon break, and we bring these snacks ourselves. But it might be so that we don't make the classrooms dirty, or it might be so that the teachers can have a breather and a cup of tea, but we all have to leave the classrooms. So there's no time set aside for cleaning, and no stage are we taught how to clean, but our teachers make sure to make us tidy up after class.
どうやら、スイスの方はきれい好きなようですね。というより公共のマナーが徹底しているということでしょうか。
先日、前を走っていた車からたばこを投げ捨てられるのを、2回も見てしまいました。自分の車は汚れては困るが、公道は汚れても構わない、といった考えでしょうか。
大人の行動を、こどもたちは驚くほどよく見ています。公共マナーは、まず大人が手本を示していきたいですね。
