1ヶ国語しかできない人は？
今朝の朝日新聞の天声人語に掲載されていた問い。
「2カ国語を滑らかに話せる人をバイリンガル、多くの言語が出来る人をマルチリンガルと言う。では、1カ国語しかできない人は」
堅い頭で考えて「モノリンガル」と思わず浮かんだ私…とほほ。
正解は……、
アメリカ人(米国人)だそうです。あはは。な〜るほど、と頷く人も多いはず。
「英語がどこでも通じると思い、外国語を学ぼうとしない米国人の驕りをちくりと刺す冗談」だそうです。
それを考えると日本人は、一生懸命外国語を学ぶ姿勢がありますよね〜。
「語学の天才と言えば19世紀にトロイの遺跡を発掘したドイツ人のシュリーマンが有名」だそうです。
生涯に十数カ国語をマスターした彼の言語習得のコツは…
「寸暇を惜しんで愚直に文章を暗唱することだった」ようです。
今回シュリーマンから得たこと。それは「繰り返すことの重要性」でしょうか。
